Simply put, Overdrive’s mission is to help you, “Change Your Life With Us.” After spending time in our facility and with our team we want our members to walk out of our doors after a workout and feel like they are better version of themselves. It isn’t the scientific sum of calories, workouts and weight that keeps our members returning. It is not the cutting edge equipment and technology. It is the people that count. Our team cares about guiding and encouraging each and every member to obtain the goals they seek for themselves. Our members’ goals are specific and if we can assist in that journey to realizing their aspirations then we have truly helped them change their life.

our story

CrossFit Solus was established in December of 2009. Our gym started in our 800 square foot shop with just a handful of friends and some lofty dreams that we could change the way that people thought about fitness. After seeing multiple physical transformations from our members through the CrossFit workouts and a Zone/ Paleo style diet, we knew there was something special to this program.

Our passion for CrossFit grew even stronger as we noticed the mental and emotional effects it had on people. The workouts were hard, sometime unbearable, but we were a team and we all battled it out together and bonded from it. Over time we could see the confidence, camaraderie and genuine care for our fellow athlete grow more and more each day.

In the beginning, we thought we were just selling fitness, but in reality we were developing relationships, building self confidence, overcoming insecurities, forging grittiness, learning empathy, and on top of all of the dramatic physical transformations that were in the works, the mental transformations were by far the most gratifying. Our Mission was simple, transform one life at a time. Every person that stepped foot into our gym, we made it our goal to give them best possible service and training program that we could. It didn’t matter where you came from or what your background was, for that hour of that day, we were a family and we were there to support you. A family that strived to make this the BEST hour of your day!

In 2011, me moved into our commercial location in town. As we approach year 11 of our affiliation, our vision for the future remains the same. We are in constant pursuit of excellence in all that we do and we will always strive to improve our program the best we can. Our community of athletes at CrossFit Solus are second to none. They are some of the most caring and supportive group you will ever meet. We value every relationship we get to have with all our athletes and thank God to have them in our lives.

Marco Tan

OWNER / HEAD COACH

Marco naturally gravitated towards sports and fitness in his younger years, choosing athletics over academics. Even though he was an honour roll student, attended UBC, and played the classical violin for 15 years, he would rather pursue playing football on the field and weightlifting in the gym. Now a masters athlete, Marco has honed his 10+ years of coaching experience and expertise to continue helping others achieve their best life while personally pursuing athletic excellence in CrossFit and Weightlifting, building a professional and premier gym business and community, and being a busy father of two amazing children.

Steve Richmond

Coach/Personal Trainer

Steve grew up loving you compete in sports, specifically hockey, golf and baseball. It was his love for competition that led him to CrossFit. He was first introduced to the sport of CrossFit in 2015. Throughout his athletic career, he has had the opportunity to meet and be lead by some amazing coaches and athletes. His mission as a coach is to spark that same inspiration in others in the hopes of them reaching their full potential whether it be in sport or in their day to day lives.

Sameen Kaviani

Kinesiologist/crossfit coach

Sameen is a Kinesiologist with the BCAK, with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from McMaster University. She has worked as a personal trainer and fitness instructor for 3 years prior to joining the Overdrive team, as well as a Strength and Conditioning coach for several McMaster varsity teams. At Overdrive, Sameen is both a CrossFit coach and Kinesiologist, providing rehabilitative treatment to both Overdrive members and the surrounding community. 

Jacky Kan

CrossFit Coach

Jacky was introduced to Crossfit in 2009 when he was looking for firefighting-related training programs to pursue his goal in becoming a firefighter. Since then, competitive CrossFit, and the CrossFit community has become an integral part of his life. CrossFit has made him into an all-rounded athlete – strengthening his physical and mental fitness to face the unknown challenges that he can encounter in life and helped him to achieve his goal of becoming a firefighter in Hong Kong in 2017. His focus is now around optimal movement mechanics, mobility, and developing the handstand and has worked with some of the best coaches in the world to master his craft. He is passionate and dedicated to helping others unlock their potential and achieve their goals. With years of experiences in the coaching industry, Jacky has honed his skills in guiding individuals towards success. Jacky strongly believes that whatever your goal is, if you stay focused, determined, committed, and never give up, you will eventually get to where you want to be. More importantly, he keeps a humble and open-mind, because no matter how talented and good you are, there is always room to improve.

BEN TAYLOR

COACH/PERSONAL TRAINER

Ben grew up skiing and playing hockey at a competitive level. When he finished he began looking for something else to push himself physically and keep his competitive spirit alive! Ben found CrossFit in 2012 and was hooked on its constantly varied framework and strong community! Having a passion for fitness and healthy living has led Ben to becoming a CrossFit Coach and continually sharing his excitement about it with others!

Spencer Loyd

Coach/Personal Trainer

From a young age, Spencer had sports dictate his life. From ski racing in the winter to high level competitive soccer in the summer and everything in between. Playing 10 years of competitive soccer opened him up to different ways of training, one being Crossfit. After he finished competing he fell in love with Crossfit shortly after in 2020. He is intrigued by training constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements while continuously improving his weaknesses. Spencer’s goals as a coach are to motivate and inspire the community while providing the most effective coaching. He is excited to show and express his passion of why he finds Crossfit so captivating and an integral part of his life.

Viktor Selezniov

Weightlifting Coach

Viktor has been a Crossfit athlete going on 9 years now and became part of Overdrive’s coaching staff 7 years ago. Growing up, he split his time between playing high level basketball, soccer and competing in Judo. With his competitive days behind he is able to direct that energy into living an active lifestyle and helping achieve the same.

Kris Aquino

Kris Aquino

CROSSFIT KIDS COACH

A valued member at Overdrive since 2019. In 2022, she took a leadership role in the Community by coaching our CrossFit Kids program. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education, alongside her CrossFit Kids certificate. Kris loves to sing, dance and play various instruments. She loves sports and has coached various teams in different High Schools and taught dance to children in different community centres. She always shares her love for fitness and movement with our kids. While keeping her intensity and teaching proper technique, she never forgets to have fun.

Grace Liu

Assistant Coach/Administrator

Grace started CrossFit in 2009 with the establishment of Overdrive Athletic Club. She became a competitive Crossfitter and alongside her teammates she competed in various competitions across the Lower Mainland. Grace was a member of the Overdrive Team as they made their Regional debut at the 2011 Canada West Regionals. Over the years Grace has spent time as a Coach, Office Manager and Crossfit Athlete. These days, her priorities have shifted to family life however, she is still an active Crossfitter and continues to support the administrative operations of Overdrive and is an integral part of the Overdrive team.

Nelson Lau

Kinesiologist/Personal Trainer

Nelson has been part of elite sports since 2013. He was a student athletic therapist with the University of Alberta Golden Bears Hockey and Soccer programs from 2013-2016. After completing his BSc. In Kinesiology, Nelson pursued a career as a personal trainer and a certified strength & conditioning specialist working with programs including the Okanagan Hockey Academy (Edmonton), Basketball Alberta and numerous college and professional athletes. Nelson also has clinical experience both as an intern and a kinesiologist focusing on helping clients return-to-sport and fitness after injury. Nelson competed in Olympic weightlifting for 2 years back in Alberta and was originally introduced to weightlifting through CrossFit. He is also a certified Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms) – a mobility training system used by a variety of professional sports organizations. With a passion for continued education and scientific approaches, Nelson will bring his experience and knowledge to guide you towards living a high-performance lifestyle.

Ryan Trinidad

COACH

Ryan grew up doing Kyokushin karate from a little kid to teen. He loved playing and competing in volleyball and basketball through school. He then got back into martial arts and tried out some new things. He spent many years practicing Yoga, Reiki, Capoeira, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. During those years he wanted to get big and strong so he lifted a lot of weights. Power lifting regularly combined with lots of time doing martial arts was a nice transition to CrossFit.

alfonso galvez

CrossFit/Weightlifting Coach

Alfonso first started on his gymnastics team in high school. Years later, he started Olympic lifting, and realized this was a sport where he stood out. He was a national champion in his division from 2013 to 2015. Then he started his career as an Olympic lifting coach and took the Level 1 CrossFit course to teach CrossFit classes. For this reason, I started training and competing in CrossFit. He participated in the 2015 Open and after months of training, he was able to finish third in Peru. He went on to get several kettlebells, functional training, CrossFit levels 1 and 2 and gymnastics certifications.

He has been coaching for the last 6 years now as a CrossFit trainer. He moved to Vancouver to continue growing as a coach and athlete.

To Request a membership hold, please fill out the form below. Holds must be submitted a minimum of 14 days in advance. Any payments due within the 14 days after the hold has been requested must be paid in full. This applies to all membership types, including prepaid, monthly, and student memberships.

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION REQUEST

Please fill out the form below and one of our team members will review your request. No-term memberships, including student memberships, require a 30 day notice for cancellations. Any payments due within the 30 days must be paid in full. Any term committed memberships, including 6 or 12 months, and prepaid memberships, may have cancellation fees as outlined in your Membership Terms and Conditions.
